Definitions

An RFI is a Request for Information. This is a formal way to ask a client or supplier for more information about some aspect of a project, and receive a formal written response which can be stored and referred to later if required.

A variation is required when your client asks you to include works that did not form part of the initial contract you signed with them. You send a variation to advise the client of the cost of the additional works and gain their agreement to proceed.
