The GPS improvements went live on Wednesday, 5 June 2019. We've prepared some info below, to give you some further detail about what the changes are and how you may be affected.


 What's changed?

AroFlo’s GPS Tracking feature has moved from a user-centric to an asset-centric model. This means that you will access user tracking via a linked asset, rather than via the user card.

We have automatically created an asset for any user you were tracking. You will see a new asset category called AroPoint GPS that will contain these new assets. The user’s tracking history will be visible on their related asset’s Map tab and on the main AroFlo Map.

To set up GPS tracking for new users, you will do either of the following:

  • In the Office interface, go to Manage > Assets and link the user to an asset (e.g. a vehicle) that is being tracked, or
  • In Site Administration, go to Users > [select user] > Feature Access and click a checkbox to enable Field tracking.

 What are the benefits?

You will be able to:

Link multiple users to one asset. If you have a crew that travels together in the same vehicle every day, you’ll track the vehicle and link each crew member to it. You can then use the vehicle’s GPS data to populate each crew member’s timesheets.

 Link and unlink users without losing the asset’s tracking history. This is great if your staff switch between vehicles every day.

Easily move tracking history between assets. For example, if you purchase a new vehicle you will have the option to move the tracking history from the old one to the new one.

This change also paves the way for some exciting new GPS functionality that we’re developing. We’ll let you know more about that in the coming months.

 Who will it affect?

It will affect people who are currently tracking users via either Traccar or AroFlo Field. For people who are tracking assets only there is no change – only an additional option to link one or more users to the asset.

 Have I lost any tracking data?

No. When we created each user’s asset, any GPS tracking history from that user’s card was migrated to their asset card. You will find their tracking history on the Map, as usual.

 Is there a cost for this change?

There are no additional costs. Anyone currently using Traccar to track either their users or assets will continue to pay the monthly fee. The option to use our free AroFlo Field Tracking will remain.

 What about the GPS timesheets feature?

The feature will work just as it used to, but you will have an additional 'asset' field to choose from, giving you the option of creating timesheets from more than one tracking device. Other GPS-powered features, such as the calendar's 'Find Nearest Resource' and 'Find Nearest Job' buttons will still work in the same way as ever.

 What do I need to do?

We have already created the assets that represented your previously tracked users and migrated your existing GPS data to those assets. Moving forward, you will need to create an asset for any new users or equipment you want to track. See more.
